Functional Medicine Index

About this directory

Functional Medicine Index compares functional medicine practices on facts you can check: credentials matched to NPI records, licence status where state boards publish it, and the prices, insurance and telehealth details each practice states on its own website. Every figure links back to where it came from and when we checked it.

Who runs it

Edited by Andrew Ehlert. We're appointing a credentialed medical reviewer; until then our condition guides stay out of search results.

Where the data comes from

Practices are found through open business data and Google Places, then checked against their own websites: a practice is listed only when its own site describes functional medicine. Clinicians are matched to the federal NPI registry, and licence status comes from state open data where it exists. Self-reported details (prices, insurance, telehealth, credentials, conditions) are quoted from the practice's site and labelled as self-reported. The full source list is on how we rank.

How the copy is written

Tables, counts, prices and badges are built directly from stored data. Short summaries, quick answers and FAQ answers are drafted by an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) from that same stored data only, then checked automatically before they appear: every number must match the data, and wording that claims a treatment works is rejected. When the data changes, the text is rewritten; until it is, the page shows plain data-built text instead. We never publish health claims in our own voice.

Partners

We show a clearly labelled partner card for Parsley Health, and on telehealth and condition pages it's also listed first, labelled “Partner” and unscored. Partners never change a practice's score, and every other position in our lists comes from the published rubric. Details are in the partner policy.

Corrections

Spot a mistake, or run one of the listed practices? Use the “Claim or correct this listing” link on any profile. Nothing changes until we've checked it against a source, and every change is dated.
